Right Turn Failure at Riverside and 25th

It seems I've been calling out this intersection a lot.  I suppose because there's a lot of turning traffic here.

This motorist waited behind me at the red light and, when the light change to green, turned unlawfully and unsafely without first merging into the bike lane.  The didn't have to wait!  If they had change lanes into the bike lane right away they could have turned (after stopping at the red light) without waiting for me.

I suppose they didn't know the rules and thought they were doing the right thing.

  1. Somehow I didn't notice the sign visible in the preview image above, that directors motorists to turn across the bike lane rather than merge into it. When it was pointed out to me, I looked to see if there is such a sign in the standards document; there is not. So I asked the city traffic engineers to remove the sign and they did so. Maybe compliance will improve now?
